A Special kind of Hearse

The Grantley Perry & Sons Hudson Hearse. A little history……

Grantley Perry & Sons offer the services of their vintage 1924 Super Six Husdon Hearse. The Hearse was used in Wonthaggi, Victoria, in 1930 by John Knox, a bad tempered Scotsman who conducted funerals on the side to supplement another part-time job. He stopped doing funerals when the Government forced him to pay tax on the use of the hearse. At one stage the back of the hearse had been removed so it could be used as a market garden vehicle.

It was later bought by Alan Bates, of Bathurst Funerals, Melbourne, in 1950 on the condition that it be restored to its original state. The back of which was off an 1890 horse drawn hearse, was refitted, the engine overhauled and some of the timbers replaced. Bathurst Funerals kept the vehicle for promotional work until 1985 before an antique dealer, Don Robinson, bought it the same year and stored it for 10 years. It spent a further three years at the Heritage Village in Gungahlin before finally making its way to Grantley Perry & Sons

It is now a permenant acquisition with Grantley Perry and Sons and is available for funeral services.
